The Municipal Emergency and Disaster Management Office (OMMEAD, Spanish acronym) protects the lives and property of residents, visitors, communities and institutions in San Juan, Ciudad • Patria, against the impact and the consequences of any natural or technological risk. In addition to the management of occurrences before, during and after emergencies, it offers throughout the year a series of services, courses and trainings to prepare the citizens. For the benefit of all the citizens of San Juan, Ciudad Patria, the Municipal Office of Emergency Management and Disaster Management (OMMEAD, Spanish acronym) mainly analyses emergency plans, eviction of public and private entities and in addition, advises in the development of emergency plans during their preparation. To achieve these goals we offer conferences to any group or community requesting our services.

On the other hand, we chop-off and prune trees, we offer flood control services, prepare fire or flood damage reports, we attend emergency situations with trained beekeepers and provide support in spill control and hazardous materials in the entire area of San Juan, Puerto Rico. In case of medical emergencies we provide first response services, pre-hospital medicine, transport to hospitals and medical assistance.

In terms of search and rescue, our staff is trained to rescue vehicles in confined spaces, search for missing people in emergencies, moving endangered victims to safe areas, fire extinction, among others. In the maritime area, we carry out rescues in rapids (streams, rivers, etc.), we aid in fire on boats, we collaborate in spill control and hazardous materials, and perform victim search & rescue. One of OMMEAD´s greatest commitments is training of the citizens of San Juan, Puerto Rico, for their integration into our office´s group of volunteers. For this reason, we are an authorized center, accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA). Such authorization and accreditation make viable offering Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED courses for laymen and Basic Life Support (BLS) for health professionals.   • Basic Life Support (BLS) – aimed at health professionals, trains to perform CPR in a variety of scenarios.
  • Technical Review for Emergency Paramedic (TEM-P)- 45 hours
    • Training Course to meet the 45 hours requirement for license renewal.
    • Certification approved by the Board of Health Professionals.
  • Review for Basic Emergency Technician (TEM-B)- 30 hours
    • Training Course to meet the 45 hours requirement for license renewal.
    • Certification approved by the Board of Health Professionals.
